Best Torrent Client Ubuntu 20 04

  • Transmission comes installed by default on Ubuntu, but there is a GTK version available for Arch. Transmission has the simplest, most bare-bones user interface among our selected group of Linux torrent clients, and probably most torrent clients at large.
  • Many Linux distributions ship with a torrent client, Transmission. Transmission is a simple torrent client, and it just works. If you need more from a torrent client such as for better torrent management, scheduling, queuing, you may want to find a better alternative. In this article, I will list some of the best torrent clients for Linux.

Hello everyone, how are you all doing today? I hope you are all having a great weekend so far. My weekend started off crazy but I will give you all the details about that later lol, anyway read on…

Today we will highlight some of the best Bittorrent clients for Ubuntu, Linux Mint and any other Linux Distro. I decided to make this post today because for some reason, a lot of Ubuntu users simply think it is a waste of time to use Bittorrent on a Linux OS, most of them would rather just find a direct download and use wget, but I argue lets take a look at some good Bittorrent clients on Ubuntu 20.04, 19.10 and 18.04, they do exist!

My recent experience with qBittorrent was eyeopening and it is quickly becoming my favorite torrent client on Linux. Compared to Deluge and Transmission, qBittorrent installation on my headless Ubuntu server was a cakewalk. Now, let us see how to setup server running Ubuntu 12.04 with qBittorrent webui. Full-fledged GUI installation is just one. Just as Transmission in the default torrent client on Ubuntu, KTorrent is the default torrent client on Kubuntu, KDE Neon, and any other Linux distribution that used KDE Plasma as the default desktop. KTorrent isn’t the simplest or the most lightweight options available out there but it is certainly one of the best.

Can I run BitTorrent in Ubuntu?

Yes, one more times, YES! A lot of Bittorrent software run perfectly on Ubuntu and Linux. In fact, Ubuntu actually comes with it’s own Bittorrent client called Transmission but to be honest, it’s good but not that good. That’s why I made this list, to showcase the other awesome BitTorrent clients out there and I positive you will find at least one or two Bittorrent clients with GUI that you can use as your favorite client, let’s begin.

#1. Download qBittorrent for Ubuntu

The qBittorrent project aims to provide a Free Software alternative to µtorrent. Additionally, qBittorrent runs and provides the same features on all major platforms (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, OS/2, FreeBSD).

qBittorrent is based on Qt4 toolkit and libtorrent-rasterbar and it runs perfectly on Linux Mint and of course Ubuntu.

An advanced and multi-platform BitTorrent client with a nice Qt user interface as well as a Web UI for remote control and an integrated search engine. qBittorrent aims to meet the needs of most users while using as little CPU and memory as possible.

qBittorrent was chosen as our #1 bittorrent client above even Deluge because it is well maintained and the stability can’t be matched. But again, just to be honest, Deluge is as good as qBittorrent if not better in some areas.

#2. Download Deluge for Ubuntu

Deluge is a full-featured BitTorrent client for Linux, OS X, Unix and Windows. It uses libtorrent in its backend and features multiple user-interfaces including: GTK+, web and console. It has been designed using the client server model with a daemon process that handles all the bittorrent activity. The Deluge daemon is able to run on linux machines with the user-interfaces being able to connect remotely from any platform.

Deluge features a rich plugin collection; in fact, most of Deluge’s functionality is available in the form of plugins.

Deluge was created with the intention of being lightweight and unobtrusive. It is our belief that downloading shouldn’t be the primary task on your computer and therefore shouldn’t monopolize system resources.

Deluge is not designed for any one desktop environment and will work just fine in GNOME, KDE, XFCE and others.

Transmission is a cross-platform BitTorrent client that works perfectly on Ubuntu, as I said above, on the 3rd paragraph, Transmisson does come by default on Ubuntu, but in case you wish to get the latest version or if by chance your Ubuntu or Linux distro doesn’t have it installed by default, this is for you.

Best Torrent Client Ubuntu 20 04

Transmission is an open source, volunteer-based project:

Transmission is designed for easy, powerful use. We’ve set the defaults to Just Work and it only takes a few clicks to configure advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocklists, and the web interface. When Ubuntu chose Transmission as its default BitTorrent client, one of the most-cited reasons was its easy learning curve.

In separate benchmarks, Linux Format and Lacrocivious both found Transmission to use less CPU than any other GUI client. It even used less CPU than some non-GUI clients.

Transmission also has the lowest memory footprint of any major BitTorrent client.
